Journeys WAU & OUTDOOR LEARNING

As reward for positive behaviour in Year 2 we had a ‘Drive-In Movie’ themed day to end our journeys topic we are snacks in our cars and enjoyed Disney’s ‘Planes’.

We were so fortunate to have one of our former pupils and a Donaghadee Dad come to Year 2 to talk about volunteering with RNLI. We heard how loud the beeper for their ‘shout’ is when they are called to help. P2 had MANY interesting questions.

Year 2 loved watching the life jacket inflate!

Year 2 had a visit from William Donnan, a firefighter from Donaghadee. William showed us his uniform and equipment and we had many interesting questions. Did you know that when there was a fire at Donaghadee Fire Station, the firefighters were not allowed to use their own fire engines to put out the fire!

We completed a traffic survey using a tally system. White was the most popular car colour around the school grounds. We were also busy building a one way system to travel on using the outdoor equipment.

Year 2 sorted vehicles according to where they travelled: land, sea or air. We also used our mathematical knowledge of handling data to make a pictograph about our favourite way travel.

Year 2 have been learning the importance of being bright and being seen in the dark. Here we are making a reflective armband and testing it in the light box.

As part of our homework, P2 researched fire safety. Look at all the information we sourced on display.

Exploring the theme of ‘Journeys’ outdoors. A road sign scavenger hunt, an obstacle course to cross the sea and boat making. We love outdoor learning!
